The Wonder of Beanie Feldstein

The Wonder of Beanie Feldstein

Beanie Feldstein first stood out to me in the comedy sequel Bad Neighbours 2.  Mainly due to her brilliant comedic timing throughout the film, and especially in the scene when her character Nora goes flying through the windshield of Seth Rogen’s car while flipping him the bird: then running off unscathed. This was Feldstein’s breakout role, and since then her career has been on the rise.

The charismatic actress, and self-proclaimed theatre geek, went on to make her Broadway debut in 2017 alongside the legendary Bette Midler, in the Tony award-winning revival of Hello, Dolly!  And her performance earned positive reviews from critics and audiences.

She then starred in Whitney Cummings’ film The Female Brain. Followed by her amazing performance as Julie in Greta Gerwig’s highly acclaimed directorial debut Lady Bird, in which she delivered one of the most moving lines of the film: “Some people aren’t built happy.”

Feldstein also had a special cameo in Maroon 5’s ‘Girls Like You’  music video, along with other inspiring female celebrities.

In 2019, Feldstein joined the cast of TV series What We Do in the Shadows, a horror-comedy show based on the Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement film of the same name. She played the adorable LARPer Jenna, who undergoes a transformation thanks to vampire Nadja.

That same year, Feldstein also starred in Olivia Wilde’s critically acclaimed directorial debut Booksmart. This clever coming-of-age comedy showcased more of Feldstein’s comic genius, as she played straight-A student Molly alongside her inseparable BFF Amy (played by Kaitlyn Dever).

This year now brings Feldstein’s first solo leading role in the movie How to Build a Girl, based on Caitlin Moran’s novel of the same name. Feldstein plays an ambitious teenager who is eager to escape her home town of Wolverhampton, and reinvent herself as a music critic. In preparation for this role, Feldstein spent time working in a Wolverhampton craft shop to practice her Black Country dialect among the locals. Further proof that Feldstein makes an awesome, dedicated leading lady.

But wait, that’s not all for Beanie Feldstein in 2020. She will also grace our TV screens in the upcoming third season of American Crime Story, as Monica Lewinsky.

Feldstein is also starring in Richard Linklater’s film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Merrily We Roll Along, alongside her real-life best friend Ben Platt. This is an on-going project that will be filmed over several years, like Linklater’s previous film Boyhood. So, there’s plenty more Beanie Feldstein to look forward to!

How to Build A Girl is available on Amazon Prime Video from 24th July 2020
